Brief Introduction
Day 1: Suzhou, Lingering Garden & Shantang Grand Canal Boat Relaxing tour
After breakfast, the guide will pick you up from the hotel lobby at appointed time to start the exploration from Shanghai to Suzhou, dubbed the "Venice of the East" or "Venice of China", which is about 100 km (62 mi) northwest of Shanghai. Founded in 514 BC, Suzhou has over 2,500 years of history, with an abundant display of relics and sites of historical interest. Upon arrival, you will have a relaxing walk in a renowned classical Chinese garden, Lingering Garden, which is recognized with other classical Suzhou gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 1997, the garden, along with other classical gardens in Suzhou, was recorded by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. "The rockeries plants pavilions towers and halls are among the best in Wu County."
After lunch, you will be able to visit the Su Xiu Embroidery Study and Research Institution.
Suzhou embroidery is crafted in areas around Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, having a history dating back 2,000 years. It is famous for its beautiful patterns, elegant colors, variety of stitches, and consummate craftsmanship.
In the afternoon, you will have a boat ride along part of the Grand Canal, which is the most relaxing way to view the ancient city, the best way to see the scenery of Shantang Street and to appreciate Jiangnan architecture with the houses of white walls and black tiles from I. M. PEI’s hometown.
After the boat ride, you will have some free time along the famous Shantang Street, which was declared a Historical and cultural block of China. There are lot of souvenirs shops, cafes, bars, restaurants.
When we finish the Suzhou day tour, we’ll take you to your hotel in Shanghai, a city that never sleeps.
MEALS
SHMT provides one meal each day: Lunch. You will have the freedom to make your own dinner choice.
Breakfast
It is normally served at the hotel where you stay. Depending on the hotel, the breakfast would be in western style, Chinese style, or a combination.
A la carte lunch
When plan your lunches, we consider the balance of food quality, dining environment and tour convenience. We provide a la carte lunch in a local restaurant whenever possible. A la carte meal will give you an opportunity to eat at local restaurant, follow local customs, and taste local dishes. The a la carte allowance would be adequate for a decent meal in our recommended local restaurants, which varies from different restaurants and different cities. However, in some remote regions where it’s simply hard to find a non-tourist restaurant, the meal could be arranged at a local tourist restaurant or a local family.
Your own dinner choice
Dinners will not be included in your meal plan unless you have that requirement. Enjoying the local food could be one of your best experiences in China. This is why we provide you this flexibility of food choice. Your private guide will always give you good suggestions based on your preferences.
